THE MONUMENT OF CALIFORNIA PLATEAU
|
This monument pays tribute to all the anonymous fallen in the Chemin des Dames between 1914-1918, near of Craonne. This bronze sculpture that is nearly 4 meters high is a French state order. It was designed by Haim Kern and was unveiled on 5th November 1998 by the First Minister Lionel Jospin, accompanied of the Minister of Culture and Communication and the State Secretary to War Veterans, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Armistice. This work entitled « Ils n’ont pas choisi leur sépulture» (they didn’t choose their grave) materializes, thanks to a networking that hugs tightly the soldiers’ faces, prisoners of this war and that brought them into death. The monument pays tribute to combatants fallen during this conflict and whose bodies didn’t receive graves. |
