THE CHEMIN DES DAMES BRITISH MILITARY CEMETERIES

The Chemin des Dames area shelters 5 British military cemeteries within which Commonwealth combatants’ graves were gathered together.  However lots of British graves still remain within the Chemin des Dames communal cemeteries.

A British military cemetery greets Commonwealth combatants fallen in the Chemin des Dames or dead as the result of their injuries during that battle. These combatants were gathered in Grand-Seraucourt British military cemetery, nearby the town of St-Quentin, and in Montcornet British cemetery. Both are outside the Chemin des Dames area.

Lots of British combatants’ graves are also sheltered within French military cemeteries, in particular in Vauxbuin French military cemetery, in Berry-au-Bac military cemetery, in Crouy French military cemetery, etc.
The maintenance of these cemeteries is under the charge of the Common War Graves Commission.
